About me
My name is Louise Schwartz and I live in Staffordshire in the UK.
I married my childhood sweetheart Steve and we’ve been together for 24 years.
We have three children, Oliver, Zac and Eva. We also have a crazy cocker spaniel called Max!
I’ve always had a strong love for music, ever since I picked up my first instrument, a cornet, at the age of 8 years old.
Throughout my childhood I learnt to play the euphonium, piano and clarinet. I achieved two Grade 8 ABRSM certificates during my teenage years and then moved on to study for a BMus(Hons) degree at the Royal Northern College of Music.
I always wanted to teach primary aged children but was offered a place on a Secondary Music PCGE course. However, I decided to take this route to see where it would lead me and I haven’t looked back since.
I began my teaching career in a middle school as the Head of Music, which I thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a lot from. I was then given the chance to move into teaching primary music and this has been my passion ever since.
Expertise
Primary Music Teaching
I have been teaching music in schools since 2005 and have gained a wealth of knowledge in how to deliver successful, enjoyable and progressive music lessons to children aged 3-13.
I am familiar with using used well-known resources like Charanga, BBC Ten Pieces, Kapow, Sing Up, Music Express but I have also developed my own music curriculum which uses a Kodaly-inspired approach to teaching music. This particular method of music tuition is practical, gives clear progression for students and can be used by the specialist and non-specialist music teacher.
What Can I Offer?
I would love to share my passion for music with other teachers, particularly those who lack confidence in teaching the subject. My dream is that all students across the UK are given access to high quality music teaching, which may inspire them to pursue their own career within the music industry.
